September 2024 Study “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction”
Description:
Eugene Peterson in his book “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction” says that our faith is either a tourist trip or a pilgrimage journey. We are either stopping in and enjoying the short term happy experience or we are on a constant journey as pilgrims growing, learning, and moving. There is movement in our faith journey. It’s not just a holiday, or weekend experience. It’s not a season, it’s not a “when everything is perfect” or when “everything is falling apart.” Our faith is a constant journey. It’s involving hope, joy, restoration in all areas and moments of our lives.
What does it take for us to be pilgrims on this journey of life? We’ll use Peterson’s book as a guide for 6 weeks as we Bible journal together. We’ll focus in on the “Psalms of Ascent” in Psalms 120-134. Peterson says “For those who choose to live no longer as tourists, but as pilgrims, the Psalms of Ascent combine all the cheerfulness of a travel song with the practicality of a guidebook and map.”

-There are NO printables for this study.
I’m offering a “Harvest Season” set of printables HERE if you want to use them. I’m sure you have a ton of leftover printables. Use what you have!

I know the economy is tough. I’m offering a “pay what you want” plan for this series. You can choose any of the options. They all offer the same thing but I wanted you to have an option to pay more or less depending on your needs.

As a reference for our series, we will be using Eugene Peterson’s book and study guide. You do not need to read either of them to participate. If you want to dig deeper, I suggest choosing either the full book or the study guide. The study guide is what I’ll be basing our weekly sessions around and it’s a quick read with in-depth questions to ponder. The full book is great and one I would recommend to read at some point in life! See below for the links to the books.

Bible Suggestion:
-I will be using the Inspire Faith, Inspire Psalm portion, and a little micro Bible.
-You can use any Bible you would like. If you’ve never used the Inspire Psalms portion, that’s a great place to start!
